The Top Movies Of 2011

It takes both effort and wisdom to make a movie. It requires teamwork and co-operation. It needs generous doses of creativity and skill. The brilliance and mediocrity of a film is determined by how it fares up in such virtues.
Yet, every year, only a handful of films do get the honors. This is quite disappointing for Hollywood. Given today's high standards, it would be natural to expect more brilliance and excellence. As it happens, a lot of time and effort is wasted in self indulgence. Thus, we have more movies, where only the stars are enjoying themselves. However, we can check out a handful of films. These movies were the saving grace for an ordinary 2010.
True Grit- The Coen Bros latest is yet another revisionist take on the Western genre. Based on Charles Portis' frontier adventure, True Grit is an exciting, masterly and often hilarious story of revenge and peril.
The writer-directors have exactingly recreated the era of crime and rivalry in the Civil War scenario. However, the Coen Bros have also fused smart humor and clever characterization into the proceedings. This yarn is as smooth and impeccable as any of the legends of Clint Eastwood and John Ford.
127 Hours- British filmmaker Danny Boyle has made another powerful and convincing movie of survival and endurance after Sunshine. 127 Hours is a tense and moving story of Aaron Ralston, who is caught inside a large canyon. The backpacker endures much pain and agony in being trapped. Eventually, he is compelled to make a terrible sacrifice for his freedom.
Boyle blends stunning and spectacular locations, with a painfully honest and poignant look at Ralston's struggles and predicament. This is a life like portrait of endurance, despair and illusions, which take over under captivity. It is thus a must-watch.
Inception- The writer director of Dark Knight is back with an equally powerful and tense entertainer. Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller shows his flair for smart thrills and chills. It also is a superbly acted and spectacular adventure.
This movie follows a gang of spies and thieves, who penetrate the mind of a business tycoon. The plan is to convince him to dissolve his empire. Nolan stages the action and mystery in both global locales and the twisted world of dreams and thoughts. The tension escalates admirably and Nolan ties up reality and rabbit hole with terrific accuracy and incredibility. Watch it out.
